About the Department

The Department of Management Studies had its beginning in 2007 with the objective of providing knowledge and training in management and leadership skills to prepare the students for managerial roles and entrepreneurship.

The course is the gateway to numerous job opportunities in different sectors like marketing, education, finance, sales and government. The course offers bachelor’s degree in management studies which comprises of 20 core papers and 8 complementary papers.

The Bachelor of Business Administration course is a judicious mix of all functional elements of Business studies which provide participants with foundational knowledge on different aspects of the administration of a business concern.

It includes at one end the need to realize why an organization exists to the other was it shows the new frontiers to which it can be developed. This course is designed to develop knowledge on the functional areas of business administration.

The disciplines it covers include management, commerce, banking, economics, industrial psychology, law, mathematics, statistics, accounting, communication, computer application and accounting software.

At the under graduate level no other course provide the student a feel and basic understanding on such a variety of disciplines. These disciplines are not merely touched upon but are dealt taking the serious contributions it can provide to running business enterprises.

The course is designed in such a fashion to provide ample scope for practical exposure to the problems and opportunities of real business. The two project studies one theoretical (Minor) and other practical (Major) as well as the mandatory requirements of three industrial visit and resultant report presentation will provide a cutting edge to this under graduate programme over the other similar ones.

Course Offered

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is an undergraduate degree course in Management.

The programme shall extend over a period of three academic years consisting of six semesters.The UG programme in Business Administrations includes Common courses, Core courses, Complementary courses, Open courses, Seminar, Project and viva voce. No course shall carry more than four credits. Every student has to select one open course in semester V offered by various departments of the College.The students will have the opportunity to explore current management literature so as to develop an individual style and sharpen his skills in the area of leadership, communication, decision making, motivation and conflict management.


BBA Webinar

A webinar on Intellectual property Rights-An exclusive study on trademarks

A one day National Seminar titled Intellectual Property Rights-Exclusive study on trademarks was jointly organized by Department of Management Studies and IQAC on Sept 12, 2020. About 75 participants attended the session.

Mr.Unnikrishnan M.T HOD, Department of Management Studies welcomed the gathering. Our college Manager Shri George Kuriakose presided over the meeting. Dr.Geetha C.A, the Principal of our college, delivered Principal’s message.

The intellectual property rights provide the formal framework for protecting their knowledge, creativity, and innovation. To maximize the potential provided by the IPR, one has to think beyond exclusive rights to Intellectual Property Rights.

The session was started with an interesting talk by Advocate Sudhin Kumar K, Central Government Counsel since 2018 in Kerala High Court. His lecture started with the topic “What is Intellectual Property Rights”. Then he discussed on different aspects of intellectual properties like what is patent, patent rights, trademarks, industrial design, trade secretes etc.

The history of trademarks, followed by basic concepts of trademarks, registration of trademarks and various aspects related to trademarks were discussed. The talk gave a clear idea about trademarks and its different aspects.

The Webinar on IPR created great awareness among the students, faculties and all other participants. An interactive session was held between the participants to clarify IPR related doubts. Finally, Mrs Ashitha Ashok C, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies proposed vote of thanks.

FDP Organized

Department of Management Studies organises Faculty Development Programs for the enrichment of faculty. Department organised Faculty Development programme on New Techniques in Learning. Department takes initiative to ensure the participation of faculty in Faculty development programs.

Department faculty attended one week online faculty development program on Research Ethics and Plagiarism organised under UGC-MHRD STRIDE (SCHEME FOR TRANS –DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH FOR  INDIA’S DEVELOPING ECONOMY)

Faculty Exchange Programme


Department of Management studies conducted two days Faculty Exchange Programme in collaboration with St. Thomas Arts and Science College, Puthencruz on 8th and 9th October 2020 through Google meet .This was a three hour session. The classes were handled by Mrs. Ashitha Ashok C and Mr. Anandhu Aravindan of Nirmala Arts and Science College. Mrs. Bini Varghese and Mrs.Anu Baby of St.Thomas College  took classes for second year BBA and final year BBA students .

The following feedback was received from the students:

1) 99% of the students felt that the delivery and presentation of the resource person was good.

2)Students felt that such an FEP Program was coordinated very well and should be arranged regularly.

Clubs & Associations



Entrepreneurship Development Club are set up by the department of Industries and commerce, mainly with the objective of promoting entrepreneurial traits among students in school and colleges. In our college ED club was started in the year 21-03-2017. Since then the club tries to build a culture of self-independence through entrepreneurship. ED club provides a platform for realizing business opportunities by arranging industrial visit, business awareness classes, and practical sessions on skill development training, interaction with entrepreneurs etc.

The main objective of the club is to inculcate social virtues i.e. Trust worthiness, Integrity, Hard work, Discipline, Honesty etc. as constituents of entrepreneurship and to sensitize students on the real Economic and Industrial Development scenario of the state.

2019-2020 – The Department Association, MANIC 20, was inaugurated by Mr. SIJIN B.T, on November 26, 2019. His session on “Career opportunities in Sports marketing” was very informative

2020-2021 – The Department Association was inaugurated by Dr.Baiju Nedumkery, on 16th February,2021.He gave an excellent talk in entrepreneurship and its impact on the students.

2016-2017 – The Department of Management studies conducted Treasure hunt programme for BBA students in the month of August 2017.It helped in enhancing the managerial talents of students

2017-2018 – The Department Fest of BBA Chrizellenz-17 was held on 14 August. The fest comprised various competitions including on quiz, treasure hunt, marketing, best manager and other fun games.The programme concluded with prize distribution.

2018-2019 – The Department of Management Studies conducted the Department Fest on September 14. The fest included events such as Product launch, Best manager etc. The event provided a great opportunity to the participants to enhance their soft skills.

Orientation Programmes

2016-2017 – A one day workshop was conducted by clinical psychologist Shalini Rakesh on yoga and Communication tips for students of the Department

2017-2018 – The orientation for the students was conducted from June 12th -15th by Dr. Ratheesh Ambat, Corporate trainer. The first year students had the golden opportunity of attending a full day session by Fr. Eby Varkey.

2018-2019 – An orientation programme was conducted for the first year students by Dr. Mary Matilda, Rtd. Principal of Maharaja’s college and a known Personality Trainer, during the month of August. She spoke at length about the importance of setting goals in life and how to go about achieving them.

2019-2020 – An orientation programme was conducted by Fr. Eby Varkey on 25th June 2019 for the first year students. He encouraged and emphasised the students to lead a life counting God’s blessings and dignity of human life. Another orientation programme was conducted by Dr. Ratheesh Ambat  on mind matters.

2020-2021 – Nirmala Arts and Science College Mulanthuruthy organized an orientation programme for the newly joined graduation students through Google meet on 30th October 2020.The programme had two sessions. The first session handled by Prof.Dr.Dileep Kumar -Former Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University ,Kalady.

The session focused mainly on the need of students to become responsible citizen in the society. The second session was handled by Shri Thankachan (Director of Rural Science and Technology Thuruthikkara)

Remedial Coaching

Remedial coaching is organized for the students to improve their academic skills and linguistics proficiency in various subjects. The main aim of remedial coaching is to improve the performance, and quality of students. The faculty members of the department arranges special lectures as per the need of the students.


Mentoring program is conducted to help the students to strengthen their various capabilities and to build an interpersonal relationship between the teachers and students. Each teacher in the department is assigned with the task of mentoring 21 students. Faculty members are approachable and they personally interact with the students. The teachers aid the students to identify their own goals and help them in achieving it. The mentoring programme is monitored by a committee consisting of the Principal, Vice-Principal and a band of experienced faculty. Mentoring Committee takes strenuous efforts in building up confidence and emotional well-being of students.

2017-2018 – Study tour was organized to Mysore, Uduppi and Coorg from 15th to 18th December with Mr. Unnikrishnan and Mr.Deepu G, Faculty members, to provide the students learning and enrichment experience.

2018-2019 – This year’s study tour was conducted to Coorg and Mysore from 1st to 5th Feb with Mrs.Vijitha and Mr.Unnikrishnan M.T, Faculty members of the Department. It was a unique experience and fascinated everyone to the lore

2019-2020 – Study tour was conducted to Coorg, Chickmanglur and Belur with Mrs.Ashitha Ashok C and Mrs. Anu Haridas, Faculty members of the Department. This was commenced on 30th January and lasted till 3rd February.

Industrial visits

2018-2019 – On receiving the letter of permission from Kitex Ltd, Kizhakambalam, 30 students with the two faculty members (Mr. Unnikrishnan & Mrs. Anu Haridas) went for an industrial visit to Kitex Group of companies on Jan 5th 2018.

2019-2020 – Another visit was conducted on receiving the permission from HR manager Mr. Sreekumar ,Traco cable Co Ltd, 59 students with two faculty members (Mr. Unnikrishnan M.T and Mrs. Sheena T C) went on an industrial visit to Traco Cables Co Ltd on July 25th2 2019.The Company permitted students to meet the workers in the industry. This helped the students to explore classroom concepts with professionals during their observations

Parent Teacher Association

The department conducts PTA meetings on a regular basis. Students’ academic performance is the basis of the internal examination.

PTA meetings are usually arranged twice a year.

Positive and negative feedback are openly discussed for timely improvement and correction.

The meeting lasts for 1 and half hours, they are informed about the overall performance of the students.

PTA is responsible for mooting out its valuable inputs that place a vital role in the enrichment of students academically in the college.


In Previous years Industries visited the college and selected students based on aptitude test followed by group discussion and HR round.

In the year 2020-21 Placement drives were conducted online and students were selected.

Major recruiters were SUTHERLAND, Hyundai, ESAF Bank etc.

Placement follow-ups are also conducted on a regular basis for ensuring whether the students who have been selected are placed suitably in the job.

Add-on courses

Diploma Course in Aviation

The Department has provided IATA Certification Course (Serving the Travel Customers) as in association with Speed Wings Aviation Academy, Cochin. Academy has necessary accreditation from National Skill Development Corporation (N.S.D.C) and Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council.

Students who completed the course will be placed on major airports in India and abroad. Course provides on the job training to BBA students in association with various educational institutions at its academic campus and in their sister concern- Speed Wings Travel Cargo. Six students from the department successfully completed the course.
